Join the call for a referendum!

The “Stop the Build” campaign needs your help collecting signatures for a petition calling for a referendum in Tiny.

A link to the petition is provided below. Unlike previous, online petitions to Tiny Township Council, this hardcopy petition will be directed to the Ontario Legislature. We are appealing to the provincial government, hoping they will honor their democratic responsibilities in supporting Tiny residents and taxpayers’ calls for a referendum and ensuring their voices are heard at a higher level.

Please circulate it among family, friends, and acquaintances.

People who live and work in Tiny need to have their voices heard. The new Municipal Administration Centre estimated to cost $27.4 M is expected to exceed $47+ M with interest! This project is not affordable and not needed. There are alternative, less expensive options. This new building diverts funds from critical infrastructure projects and essential services in Tiny Township.

In addition to Tiny residents, anyone residing anywhere else in Ontario is eligible to sign.

Please have signees fill it out with an ink pen.

All signed petitions must be returned by Thanksgiving Weekend. Please contact me to arrange pick-up of petition sheets with signatures by October 14th or if you have questions.

Thank you for your help and support.

TEXT OF THE PETITION FOR A REFERENDUM:

To The Legislative Assembly of Ontario: June 28, 2024

WHEREAS the Council members of Tiny Township have completely failed to engage in full, free, unconstrained consultation and dialogue with Tiny Township residents over the proposed new Municipal Administration Centre. This is unacceptable, given the magnitude of the project and its projected cost and potential impact on the residents’ lives through tax increases.

WHEREAS the issue was not explicitly raised and fully aired during the previous Tiny Township Council election campaign; therefore Council never received a mandate to proceed with the new Municipal Administration Centre project.

WHEREAS Tiny Township has significant underfunded infrastructure and exorbitant expenses; therefore, it makes no economic sense for Council to add massive future debt to already overburdened Tiny taxpayers. We the undersigned residents of Ontario petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows: That the Ontario Government intervene and require the Township of Tiny’s Council members to hold a referendum for the sole purpose of having residents of Tiny Township vote either “yes” or “no” to determine if the said residents want Tiny Township to build a new Municipal Administration Centre as per the Council’s proposal.
